The
MS Zuiderdam (pronouced
Zi-der-dum)
was the first of four, Vista Class ships built by Fincantieri
Cantieri Navali S.p.A. of Italy. It was delivered to Holland
America Lines Inc. in December of 2002 at a cost of approximately $400
million. The "dam"
suffix
has been used for all HAL passenger liners and cruise ships since 1883
and MS Zuiderdam takes its name from the
southern most point on a compass.
