1. Open your Browser, (NETSCAPE or INTERNET EXPLORER), and go to www.mcafee.com.

2. Click on the DOWNLOADS link on the far right of the blue task bar on the home page.

3. Under Anti Virus Updates click the drop down screen and choose either SUPERDAT  or VIRUSSCAN 4.0.3 or higher. (Note: Superdats will update your scan engine as well and are therefore much bigger and take longer to download. It is advisable to use this option every so often to update the scan engine of your software), then click GO.

4. This will bring you to the DOWNLOAD page where you just need to click the blue Download button. 

5. This will bring up a SAVE AS… window, where you have to choose where to save the file. I normally suggest putting it in a McAfee sub-directory in the Software directory of your last partition on your hard drive (“D” or “E” in most cases), but the choice is yours. Just remember where you saved it because you will need to find it later. Also please note the file name- it will have the word dat and a number e.g “4179xdat.exe” or “sdat4179.exe” depending on what version you chose.

6. Once it has completed downloading, Open WINDOWES EXPLORER and navigate to the directory you saved the file to.

7. Upon locating the file, double click on it. The self installing wizard will then take over and you just need to answer the questions as they appear on your screen.

8. When installation is, the self installer may ask you to re-boot your computer.:
